About Glen Moray
Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery situated on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin, Moray—the capital of Speyside. Originally built as a brewery in 1831, the site was converted to whisky production in September 1897. The early years proved challenging. The Pattison crash and increased duties forced closure for most of 1910-1923. Revival came when Macdonald & Muir (owners of Glenmorangie) purchased Glen Moray in 1920, reopening in 1923. They controlled the distillery for over 80 years until LVMH acquired the Glenmorangie group in 2004. La Martiniquaise bought Glen Moray in 2008. Major expansion in 2012 increased production to 3.3 million litres annually. Further growth in 2016 reached 5.5 million litres, and 2023 upgrades brought capacity to 8.5 million litres from 4 wash stills and 6 spirit stills. Part of production goes into Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Glen Moray is renowned for balancing traditional Scottish whisky-making with innovative cask finishes—sherry, bourbon, and port casks creating smooth, rich, versatile expressions. Their Phoenix Rising won Best Scotch Speyside Single Malt at the 2024 World Whiskies Awards. Compare Glen Moray prices at Grocefully.
