About Bavaria
Bavaria is one of the oldest brewing companies in Europe, with origins dating back to 1719 in Lieshout, North Brabant, Netherlands. Now operating as Royal Swinkels Family Brewers, the business has been fully owned by the Swinkels family for seven generations, making it one of the world's longest-running family-owned breweries. Municipal archives suggest the brewery's origins may extend even further back to 1680. The Bavaria name was adopted in 1924 when the fifth generation of the Swinkels family built a new brewhouse using bottom fermentation techniques. This rarely-used brewing method enabled them to produce lighter "Pilsener type" lager with a distinctive fresh taste. The name indicated Bavarian-style pale lager, and the brewery quickly expanded distribution to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. Bavaria is a pioneer in alcohol-free brewing, launching their first non-alcoholic beer in 1978 - well ahead of the industry trend. They exported this innovation to the Middle East, recognising the demand in regions with religious restrictions on alcohol. Today, Bavaria's 0.0% range remains one of the leading alcohol-free beers in the UK market. At Grocefully, we help you compare Bavaria prices across major UK supermarkets.
